Bids Open for
HighwayConstruction
An invitation to bid on 11 road and bridge projects on December 13 was given contractors today by the State Highway Department.
The projects include divided arterial bypasses at Burke ville and Bedford, another segment of dividing onArterial US 211 in Rappahannock County, and the paving of Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County between Petersburg and the Dinwiddie Court House interchange. Three Southwest Virginia Appalachian road projects previously scheduled for advertising last month but deferred because of a federal holdback in Appalachian funds are still deferred. Highway officials said they have not received a release of the federal funds, which would pay 50 per cent of the cost on two of the projects and 70 per cent on the third. \lso included in today's request for bids is an urban project to divide or relocate nearly a mile of Route 42 in Harrisonburg, and one to build a special-design bridge over the North Fork of Holston River in Washington County northwest of Meadowview.
