Hunt Accident Rate Ahead of Last Year
Thirty-six persons have been injured in hunting mishaps so far this season as op posed to 32 hurt during the same period last year, accord ing to Game Commission Safe ty Officer J. N. Kerrick. The number of fatal accidents was limited to 4 for each period, however. Eighteen of the mishaps occurred while the victims hunted Big Game and the remained Involved 6mall game hunters. Shotguns were the offending weapon in 24 of the accidents. Victims concealed or partial ly concealed from the shoot er were the leading factor in accidents involving intentional discharge. Persons moving unexpectedly into the line of fire ran a close second in this category. Defective weapons and unexplained discharges were the most common factor in accidental discharges. Various acts of care less gun handling suchasdrop ping , weapons, snagging trig gers and clubbing game together accounted for nearly half of the mishaps of this type
