One out of every ten families/1 knows the anguish*that comes with the birth of a defective child. Kvery year 250,000 ba-^; bies are born with significant defects, and at least 18,000 of these infants die in their first year. Deaths annually caused by birth defects total at least ,500.000. Funds realized through the j March of Dimes campaign are

[used in ^research and treatiment of this great destroyer. The campaign is headed local* ly by Robert L. Brown, with the following district chairmen: Jackson, Mrs. A. C. Latham, Hawthorne, Mrs. Mary Quaintance; Wakefield, Mrs. Mary R. Miller; Piedmont, M rs. Frances Thornton; Stonewall, Mrs. Betty Wood; Hampton, Mrs. Frances Foster. These chairmen have mailed literature and collection envelopes to residents of their respective areas. Please respond to them or directly to the county chairman. If you have not received a notice or been contacted you may contact the chairman of your district.
