Social Security Notes
The changes in the social security law signed by President Johnson on January 2, 1968 will mean a benefit increase of at least 13 percent in the social security checks of about 900 men, women, and children in the Rappahannock County area. The Social Security Administration’s high 6peed electronic computers are figuring the increases for all 23,700,000 social security beneficiaries around the country and will finish the task in time to include the increases in the checks delivered early in March. Beneficiaries need not take any action to get the increase, It will be sent to them automatically.
Residents of the Rappahannock County area can expect the first increase check on Saturday, March 2nd, one day earlier than the usual 3rd of the month delivery of social security benefit checks. Under a recent arrangement with the Treasury Department and the Post Office, social security checks are delivered a day early instead of a day late when the 3rd of the month falls on a Sunday or holiday. Some social security beneficiaries will receive more than a 13 percent increase. The minimum benefit for workers retiring at 65 is increased from $44 to $55.
