Eye-Donor Drive
Thu Lions Clubs of Virginia, which provide full financial support for the Old Dominion Lye Dank, have initiated a drive to increase by a substantial margin the number of eye-do ca^ds on file in the Richmond office. Over 5,000 members of the approximately 150 I .ions Clubs in the coverage area of the eye bank in eastern Virginia have been asked to establish a goal of one donor card per month from each member. Achievement of this goal, according to R. Kenneth Hudgins, executive Director of the Lye Dank, would make it pos s i b l e to provide enough human eye tissue for transplant purposes to restore sight to all blind individuals in Virginia whose loss of vision is of a type which may be helped by such transplantation. Restoration of vision is now possible in many cases where blindness is caused by diseased or damaged corneas or detached retinas. As part of the campaign to interest the public in pledging their eyes on death to this cause.
