Virginia still leads the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Delaware in the Home Fallout Protection Survey currently being conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the Office of Civil Defense.
As of July 24, 71.3% of the 536,861 mailed questionnaires have been answered. The survey is being conducted by mail in the urban areas of 10,000 population or more and in the rural and suburban areas by Census enumerators who called at all one, two, and three family homes. The enumerators completed their work on May 14. There are still close to 30% of the mailed questionnaires to be returned.
Occupants of one, two, or three family dwellings who did not receive a questionnaire or who were missed by the enumerators may obtain a questionnaire by calling their local Civil Defense Coordinator.
The final blanket mailing of questionnaires was on July 12. The survey, which began April 16, will continue through August.
Individual home evaluations are now being sent to those who have responded to the first mailing. Evaluations of the enumerated dwellings will be going out in a few weeks. All information regarding individual dwellings is confidential between the householder and the Cen sut Bureau. The attached tabulation of mailed responses by individual city or county is based on computer data dated July 10, 1968.
