A large crowd filled the town; of Flint Hill to overflowing forj the firemen’s parade last; Thursday evening. The gigantic ^' parade featured more than 150 units and included floats, bands, drum and bugle corps, majorette groups, comic entries, and fire fighting and rescue equipment from four states and the District of Columbia.
The United States Army Band from Fort Belvoir and grand marshal Beverley Byrd led the parade. Special guests included i Cherie Davis of Clifton Forge, the i newly crowned “Miss Virginia”,! Michele Patrick, “Miss American; Teen-Ager,” and Jan Minnick “Miss Shenandoah Apple! Blossom”.
Prizes were awarded to the] following:
Best high school band - first, Shippensburg Area Senior High School Band, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; second,; Charlestown High School Band, Charles Town, West Virginia; third, Berkley Springs High School Band, Berkley Springs, West Virginia; fourth, Stafford; High School Band, Stafford.
