Record Number of
Citizens Pledge Eyes
The Old Dominion Eye Bank reports that 25,000 eye-donor pledge cards are now on file. This total includes the latest addition of 2,326 donor cards received j through the efforts of Lions Club members during the past 12 j months. j
The need for a continual increase in pledges is stressed by Eye Bank Board Chairman Jack L. Middleton. This steady increase is required to offset the yearly loss of approximately ten percent of available donors.
The depletion is caused by donors moving out of state, moving to another part of the state, losing their donor cards, or the failure of next of kin to carry out the wishes of the donor.
To prevent the loss of cards, Middleton reminds donors to carry their card with their driver’s license.
Sixty billboards are now on display which explain the method of pledging and urge the signing of pledge cards by prospective donors.
In response to the appeal for additional donors, Lions Clubs are setting their sights even higher. Their goal is to have each member obtain at least one signed i pledge card per month.
A donor card can also be obtained by writing directly to the Old Dominion Eye Bank, 408 North 12th Street, Richmond, Virginia.
