Rappahannock Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Aileen. Inc., located near Flint Hill, has expanded operations about a hird in recent weeks. A new section of 10,000 square feet of floor space has been added to the existing building making a total area of 30,000 square feet. In the past six months 90 new employees have swelled the total employees to 250. By November the employee roster is expected to stand at 300 or 350.
Rappahannock Manufacturing Company, which produces ladies and children’s garments, is the largest of ten plants, all located in Virginia. Present production is 1,500 dozen garments in a 9 hour day. The wearing apparel includes skirts, blouses, slacks and shorts, all made of a fine knited material.
Except for the fashion designing, which is done in New York, all other phases of the garment manufacture take place in Virginia. The thread is knit into material at a plant in Kdinburg. It is also cut out there and shipped to the various sewing plants including the local one. Once here they are assembled, pressed, inspected, folded and boxed, then sent to Woodstock where orders are filled and shipped to many retail outlets The overall company productior has reached a million dollars anc is holding steady.
