On August 14th at the Courtland Sale, Randall’s consignment fetched second high money, both gilts and boars among the Hamps.
Just recently at the Virginia Market Hog Show Randall and his pop, John B., cleaned the show by exhibiting: the Grand Champion Single, the Grand Champion Pen-of-Three, the Reserve Champion Pen-of-Three, Two First Place Singles, a Second Place Single, Two First Place Pens of Three and a Seventh Place Single.

If you lost an Angus Cow six months to a year ago that could have strayed to the Byrd Updike farm in “Rock Bottom”, you can quit worrying. She is dead. Mrs. Marx wrote about one having been found stone dead in her bam. Since she thought someone had locked it in her bam and since we couldn’t locate one Pete Estes, I investigated.
An open door leading to an alley way filled with manure had made it easy for Miss Nosey Cow to get into the central manger. From here, where a couple hay wrack slats had broken, she had simply jumped down to the other alley way from which there was no returning. No food, no water, no cow - just a carcass. An Angus and someday maybe I’ll trace ownership.
