Farmers recently named to serve as the Agricultural | Stabilization and Conservation > (ASC) Rappahannock County " Committee are: H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Wakefield District, D. D. Miller, Vice-Chairman, Hampton District, R. E. Wood, Regular Member, Piedmont District, James F. Massie, First Alemate, Jackson District and Dabney M. Eastham, Second Alternate, Wakefield District. The 1968 election was held at a x»unty convention on September 30, 1968 at Washington, Virginia. Electors were farmers chosen as invention delegates in recent ASC community committee Sections throughout the county. Chairman, H. S. Barksdale Joints out that the ASC county ! tnd community farmer-commitees are in charge of local administration of such national farm programs as the Agricultural Conservation Program, the Cropland Adjustment Program, the feed grain program, the voluntary wheat program, acreage allotments and marketing guotas, the National Wool Program, commodity price-support loans, and storage facility loans. The ASCS county office at Washington, Virginia is headquarters for the county committee, and serves as the farmers’ local contact for business connected with participation in the programs administered by the committees. These programs encourage conservation and increase farm returns by means of price supports and market supply-management, as well as by payments.

County Approved For Title I Federal Funds
A project costing $46,024 to aid educationally disadvantaged children in Rappahannock County has been approved for 1968-69 under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, the Federal Programs Office of the State Department of Education announced today.
The project includes a developmental reading program for 252 students in grades one through seven and a special education class for 10 students. Dental and medical services also are provided.
