Marsh Coordinator
Seventh District Congressman John O. Marsh, Jr., announced ;oday the appointment of Delegate D. French Slaughter, Jr., is the campaign manager of the Marsh for Congress Campaign in Culpeper County, and Area Co-ordinator of the campaign effort in the Counties of Culpeper, Orange, and Madison. In commenting on Slaughter’s appointment, Marsh said: “I, as well as the others in the campaign effort, are most pleased to have French undertake this post. He is a veteran legislator with a distinguished record of achievement in his many years of service in the General Assembly. He is an able lawyer and a man of great character and ability.”
A resident of Culpeper and Delegate to the General Assembly representing the Counties of Madison, Culpeper and Orange, Slaughter was first elected to the State Legislature in 1957. He attended the Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia, where he graduated in law.
A combat infantry veteran of World War II, he has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds and the Bronze Star Medal.
Slaughter indicated his interest in and support of Congressman Marsh by saying:
“Jack Marsh has represented this District in Congress for the past six years with great ability and distinction. He is a conscientious and dedicated public servant who faithfully represents the views of the people in our area. His proven record of service and experience make him the best-qualified candidate in this race, and he is the kind of Congressman we need in Washington.”
