As an example of how this change works, take the case of Bill and Mary Jones and their three children. Of course, Bill and Mary Jones are fictitious names, is all social security records are confidential. Mary worked under social security before her marriage to Bill, then she remained home. Mary was killed in an automobile accident, leaving Bill and their three small children. Bill filed a claim for the lump-sum death
payment and social security ' benefits for the three children. He ■ received the lump-sum death 1 benefits, but the children’s claim ' was denied because Mary had not 1 worked recently under social 1 security, and Bill was supporting 1 the family. With the change in the law, :f ; Bill files a new claim for benefits for the three minor children, they \ will be eligible to receive monthly cash payments. The fact that a lump-sum death payment was made indicates Mary was “fully insured.” Anyone who believes his children could now qualify under this change should contact the social security office, which is located at 20 S.
