How beautiful and exciting thii view was to the eyes of a country girl (?). We had never seen such i plush hotel. It is impossible tc describe and when I tell you that we were told that probably tht rooms cost as much as $50.00 £ day, you can understand why ] can’t describe it.

The guide got us cate for oui hotels. The gentleman in my group told the driver to go to the El Cortez first so that I would nol have to ride alone. I fell into bet! that night.

On the next morning, Friday, Sept. 20, I went to the Jack Tai Hotel to pay for my Parlor Toui reservations for we were to leave early Saturday morning. When ] returned to the lobby of my hotel I was greeted with a cheery “Good Morning” from Mr. X. He was so amused and pleased too with my enthusiasm that he was telling all who would listen that “Miss Almond” had taken San Francisco with a vengeance ■ three tours in one dayl” Then he had no idea of letting me rest on Friday, for he asked me had 1 seen the Acquatic Park, the State Historical Maritime Park and Ghiradelli Square. I replied ] hadn’t. “Oh you must see that and you can do that on your own.” Can you imagine my thoughts? He got a piece of paper and began writing the directions ■ Hude Street, cable car - go down the street 3 blocks, tum to Powell and cross over and take the Hyde St. and Acquatic cable car.

With the directions in my hand I went to the door and thought -1 can’t do this alone • I’ll go out and stay a while and come back and tell Mr. X I’ve been. Then ] thought “Coward”, so down the street I went. I got to Powell but with my uncertainty the first Hyde St. car went by; however, another followed and with a pretty little blond’s assurance 1 got on. A little Chinese girl got on and sat by me. She sensed my uneasiness and I suppose saw the directions clutched in my hand, so she told me this car would take me to the Park which was at the end of the line. Then I would get a car on the Square to return. There were two American women tourists on the car just for a short ride but they decided to go with me to the end.
