Game-Fish Commission Acquires Two New Tracts
TTie Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries recently completed acquisition of 2 nearby tracts of land, which are additions to existing Wildlife Management Areas, reports Executive Director Chester F. Phelps. The largest is a 377 acre addition to the Commission’s Rapidan Wildlife Management Area in Madison County. This area, known locally as the Devils Pitch, has a mile of native trout stream and some virgin timber. It borders Shenandoah National Park on three sides.
A 278 acre tract in Fauquier County which joins the Commission’s Weston Refuge is expected to greatly expand recreational opportunities in this area. Hie new addition can support dove, quail and rabbit hunting and will have room for a 1 course bird dog field trial area. The -'present Weston Refuge, where no hunting is allowed, is usep extensively for beagle
tra/ning and field trials and its food plantings make it a refuge for doves. Its close proximity to the Washington Metropolitan Area is expected to make it a popular outdoor recreation spot. Fall Race Meeting This Saturday at Glenwood
It is not too often that the general public is given a chance to contribute to a worthy cause and at the same time get something highly enjoyable in return. Such is the case, however, this coming Saturday at beautiful Glenwood Park outside Middleburg for the Ifall Race Meeting. ' The beneficiary this year is the Loudoun Memorial Hospital. Of the five races, beginning at two p.m., there will be two championships decided-one for hurdles and one for timber. The races have filled and it is Understood the top horses in training are entered. But, more importantly, the Loudoun Memorial Hospital needs your help - and deserves it._
