What makes this type ot accident so senseless is that it can be so easily prevented.
To avoid rear-end collisions, the American Insurance Association suggests this simple driving rule:
A safe following distance is a car length for each 10 miles an hour you are driving. If you are traveling 40 miles an hour, foi example, 72 feet would be a reasonable following distance.
With nearly 17 million traffic mishaps reported in the United States last year, that resulted ir 53,000 fatalities, one just can nol drive too carefully, the Association states.

Mrs. Margaret Cetelka, Home Economics teacher at Clarke County High School, has been elected president-elect of District N of the Virginia Education Association. Mrs. Cetalks was nominated from the floor of the recent District N meeting held at Loudoun Valley High School. She opposed two men selected by the nominating committee; James Given, principal of Frederick County Junior High School and George Atwell, principal ol Loudoun Valley High School.
District N is composed of eight counties, Frederick, Clarke Loudoun, Rappahannock Warren, Fauquier, Prince Willianr and Culpeper.
Mrs. Cetalks will serve ai president-elect from 1969-71 anc as president from 1971 to 73.
