We left this point for the Maripona Grove to see the magnificent “Grizzly Giant” and the “Wawona Tunnel Tree”. These big Redwoods are said to be the largest living thing on the earth. The “Grizzly Giant” is said to be 96'/2 ft. around and 209 ft. tall and still growing. It is 3,8001 years old. Our bus was stopped! on the highway where wej transferred to an open type truck to tour this grove and go through the Tree Tunnel. Its tunnel for cars to travel through was cut for stagecoaches in 1881. I was seated in the truck so that I could touch one side of this tree as we went through. I am very proud of having gotten a picture of the tunnel as we drove through even though the shade kept it from being perfectly clear.
I thought of Mr. and Mrs. Louches when we passed Badger Pass Ski Area. It has six slopes, five tows and a chair lift.
We went from the Park to Fresno to the Del Webb Hotel for the night. This city has done more for the minority group than any other city. Fresno County grows more foodstuff than the state of New Jersey.
The next morning John with No. 5 was there to meet us. On our way I saw a sign - Herndon, California, but we by-passed the town. On this Highway 99 we saw vineyards of grapes. We also saw cotton growing. We changed to Rt. 152 which led us to Los Banos, an extremely hot place in the summer. John told us of the famous aqueduct that is 600 miles long and runs mostly uphill
