Jenkins Gets Trophy
For Largest Deer
Edward “Pete” Jenkins of Washington was awarded the trophy for the largest deer killed and registered in the Big Deer Contest which is sponsored annually by the Rappahannock Game and Fish Club. Presentation of the trophy was made at the meeting of the club on Monday, January 13.
Mr. Jenkins bagged an eleven point deer which weighed 200 pounds field dressed. That is a lot of field dressed deer and Pete took his deer in a year when large deer were the rule. The deer was pictured in an earlier issue of this newspaper.
Among other business to come before the Game and Fish Club was the approval by the membership of payment for material used by Rappahannock County High School students in a N.R.A. Hunter Safety Course given in November.
The club also approved the disbursement of $15 for prize money in a Wildlife Food Patch Contest. This contest will be aimed mainly toward the young people of the county to encourage wildlife conservation. A $10 and a $5 prize will be awarded.
The club urges everyone who can to participate in the program whether interested in the contest or not. Seed for the program will be distributed free of charge in April and May.
Morgan Johnston was retained as president of the Fish and Game Club, as was secretary-treasurer! Charles Foster.

Registration for these classes will take place at the school on Saturday, January 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and on Tuesday, January 21 and Thursday, January 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Classes will meet two nights a week for two hours each night. The cost of the courses is $15 with the exception of Basic Education which is free.
