She said that occasionally a check is delayed without apparent reason. Most such checks arrive by the 10th of the month without any action on the part of the beneficiary. If the check does not arrive by the 10th of the month in which it is due, it should be reported immediately to the nearest office. That office will talfe action to insure prompt mailing of the amount due. If the chepk is received and later lost or stolen the matter should be reported without delay to the social security office. The report should include all information regarding the circumstances of its loss or theft. This will enable the Treasury Department to stop payment on the check and to speed the issuance of another check. It will also help to apprehend the guilty parties in the case of a stolen check. Mrs. Daly reminded beneficiaries that they should include their claim numbers with all correspondence about social security benefits.
