accidental injuries is something to be desired but, of course, can never be achieved. However, falls can be prevented if we concentrate on the causes of falls, develop safety attitudes and habits, and put them into practice.
Here are a few helpful hints:
1. Keep a stairway well lighted with the light shining on the top and bottom steps.
2. Locate the light switch so that one does not have to lean over the steps to operate it.
3. Install a bannister or handrail on a side of the stairway and hold on to it while walking.
4. Keep the stairway clear of objects such as books, games, packages, et cetera.
5. When one must stand on tiptoes to reach an object, use a stepladder or step stool.
6. Keep the floor of the bathroom dry. The bottom of the bathtub or shower should be slip proof by use of adhesive non-skidding material or a rubber mat.
