The Senior Class of Rappahannock County High School is deviating from the regular pattern of hillbilly humor and ghastly dramas this year to present a contemporary play about the “now” generation. “Hip Hippie Hooray”, a three act play, has something for everyone: wild characterizations (would you believe the captain of the basketball team as a guru?), outlandish costumes, humor, and every now and then - acting!
The scene is set in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Suzy Stevenson, a little “white gloved square” arrives on the scene to find her brother who has joined the movement. She decides to open the “Eat-Inn”, a free restaurant for Hippies, hoping of course that her brother will show up.
First she must win the confidence of the Hippies who are using the empty restaurant as a temporary pad. And, an even more difficult task, she must get them to work, a dirty word in Haight-Ashbury.
The restaurant is finally opened, however, despite a landlord who hates Hippies, peace-loving cops, and an acute shortage of bread (money). Hip Hippie Hooray is a play for everyone from the tiny teeny bopper to the over 30 generation. The date is May 7 in the Rappahannock County High School Gym. Adults, $1.50; students, $1.00; and children under 12, 50 cents. Tickets may be purchased from any member of the Senior Class.
