J Prisoner Escapes i From Road Crew
A state prisoner escaped last 1 Thursday from a road where he was working under guard on Route 707 near Slate Mills. Virgil Day Layne, 19 years old, of Campbell County was serving eleven years for statutory burglary. This was not the first time he had run away or escaped. Layne was seen Friday afternoon in the Ben Venue area on the Richmond Road, Route 729. He has not been apprehended.
