Virginia Gold Cup

Running Saturday

A field of nine timber horses is scheduled to start in the 44th running of the Virginia Gold Cup race, 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at Broadview Farm in Warrenton.

Heading up the strong list is Randolph D. Rouse’s Arctic Heir-three-time winner in the point-to-point racing circuit this spring-and John W. Warner’s Annual Meeting-winner of the Middleburg Hunt Cup.

Joe Aitcheson, Jr., the nation’s leading steeplechase rider, is slated to ride Arctic Heir, 2 seven-year-old Virginia brec gelding by Arctic Prince-My Trulj
