Miss Kaye Johnston and Mrs. Jimmy Wayland supervise a group of pre-school children who are attending summer school at Rappahannock County Elementary School for three weeks. There are 94 students enrolled in the program which provides opportunities for association with other youngsters outside of the home and prepares them for entrance into the first grade in the fall. .The school also aids in determining the weak and strong points of each individual. According to Mrs. Lavinia Barron, coordinator of the program, attendance has been good and the cooperation of the parents excellent, both of which are needed to complete a successful program. The youngsters pictured above are using modeling clay and this activity was followed by a session of finger painting. Among other activities of the school were a visit and talk by Trooper W. A. Buntin; a visit by a fire truck and an ambulance so the children could get a close look at the vehicles; art sessions and nature walks.
