Traffic Statistics
Virginia’s 1969 traffic deaths for the first half of the year stood tentatively at 579 as against 560 for the comparable period of 1968, Colonel H. W. Burgess, Superintendent of State Police^ reported today. January, with 98 deaths; May, with 113, and June, with 127 set all time highs. Previous respective highs were 85 in 1942, 102 in 1965 and 112 in 1964. Colonel Burgess noted that there had been sharp fluctuations in deaths with 40 more than for the comparable 1968 period on February 17 and 30 less on April 30.
