Named to the Anchorage District Distinguished Student list and a Commended Student in the National Merit Qualifying College test, this National Honor Society member received many awards. Among them were three scholarships for outstanding senior; $500 from the Anchorage Rotary Club, $400 from the Lions Club of Anchorage and $100 from his school body in recognition of his efforts to maintain high morals in the school and to promote better community spirit.
In addition to his scholastic achievements this busy youth has earned letters in band and football as well as playing Varsity baseball. Due to his father’s military assignments he has traveled widely and attended many different schools including three years in Mannheim-Kaefertal, Germany.
Retired from the Army Marvin Neilaen, Sr. is now .working for the Air Force in remote areas of Alaska, maintaining residence in Anchorage. With his home and family so far away, Marvin, Jr. will be a frequent visitor of his grandparents in this area.
