Fall Colors Will
Soon Be Evident
The fall colors in the forests of Shenandoah National Park will soon be evident, declared Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins. Bright colors in a few trees and low bushes now herald the annual color transition
Normally little change occurs before October, and during the coming weekend about 10% of the trees will be colored Shades of red can be seen in the dogwood, black gum, and Virginia creeper; while the birches, hickory ash, locusts, and oak provide the yellows.
During recent days Shenandoah has experienced warm days and cool nights, which should produce excellent colors, barring a killing frcyst or strong winds, said Hoskins.
