With hunting season just around the corner, now is the time to get permission from the landowners Written permission is required on posted land and is desirable even on unposted land. Also remember permission granted in years past or even last year does not necessarily mean permission this year. Land ownership may change or the feeling of the landowner toward hunting may have changed. Even after permission is granted it makes a landowner feel better if you stop by the house on the way hunting each time or give him a call the night before, so he’ll know who’s on the place. Word of mouth permission from a fellow hunter or from anyone other than the owner or his appointed agent is a poor way to do business unless the hunter has distinct permission to take a party with him. When talking to the landowner make it clear to him if you would like to bring another person or persons with you. Often I’ve heard from a landowner, “1 gave Mr. Hunter permission and he brought a crowd in here”. Then usually adds, “He won’t hunt hen again". If you are going to hunt, you get the permission to be sun!
