Harvest Festival Fun

In Spite of Weather

Chilly weather kept attendance down at the Harvest Festival held Friday and Saturday nights at Sperryville carnival grounds. In spite of this a total of $1449.55 was taken in.

Winners of the prizes given away were: Color TV, Mrs. Bertie Atkins, Sperryville; Holstein Bull, James M. Strother, Warrenton; radio, Roy R. Atkins, Sperryville; old Virginia ham, M. E. Pascucci, Annandale; 25 gallons gas, Charles F. Woodward, Sperryville.

The officers and members of the rescue squad expressed appreciation to the public for the support in this and other activities benefiting the unit. At present the squad is awaiting approval on a federal grant requested through the Highway Safety Commission. Approval is expected at any time and when notified of it a new vehicle will be ordered immediately. After the order is initiated, the vehicle would be equipped and in service in approximately 60 days. Standard first aid classes have been completed and the advanced course is now in progress.

Although the fund drive by the Sperryville Rescue Squad has been very successful they are still short of the fund goal necessary to begin operations. Anyone wishing to contribute to the squad fund may do so by sending a check, cash or money order for the squad to Charles A. Sisk, Treasurer, Sperryville. This organization is not a part of the fire company or other companion unit and will operate independently.
