The marriage of Miss Connie Jo Johnston to James Richard Latham, Jr. was solemnized at three o’clock Sunday afternoon, October 5, 1969 in Marlowe Heights Baptist Church, Front Royal, Virginia. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin S. Johnston of Huddleston, Virginia, recently of Front Royal. Mr. Latham is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Latham of Horner Hill Farm, and grandson of Mrs. A. C. Latham Sr., all of Amissville.
The Rev. J. Robert Woodside performed the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with lighted cathedral candles, palms and arrangements of white gladioli and chrysanthemums..
Miss Deborah Pearson was organist and soloist was David Lawrence who sang “A Time For Us”, “One Heart, One Hand” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”
The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her long gown was of white silk crepe with a lace overlay, fashioned on Empire lines with a bow accenting the waistline in the back and the skirt ending in a full chapel train. The long sleeves of lace were tapered to a point over her wrists. Her elbow-length veil was attached to a flat rosette. Her only ornament was a silver cross belonging to her maternal grandmother. She carried a white Bible topped with white orchids and satin streamers.
Miss Brenda Pearson of Front Royal was maid of honor. Her long gown was of gold satin designed on Empire lines with short sleeves and a bow at the back waistline with ties falling to the floor. Her headpiece was a halo of bronze chrysanthemum buds and veiling and she carried a nosegay of bronze chrysanthemums.
Miss Martha Sue Woodside of Front Royal was bridesmaid. Her gown was avacado satin designed like that of the honor attendant. She wore a halo of yellow chrysanthemum buds and carried a nosegay of yellow chrysanthemums.
