I am a Democrat and a candidate lor election as a Democrat from the 28th Legislative District to serve as Delegate in the House of Delegates of Virginia.
On October 6, 1969 1 filed with the Clerks of the Courts for Fauquier, Rappahannock and Warren Counties and on October 7, 1969 with the State Electoral Board my petition to run as a Democrat for the vacancy which now exists in the Virginia House of Delegates from the 28th Legislative District. My petition is in accordance with the Virginia State Code which gives the procedure to be followed and also permits anyone who has qualified by petition within 20 days of election to have his or her name on the ballot.
In view of the short time remaining until the election on November 4th, I must use every means of letting you know about those things in which I believe.
These are some of the more important and u rgent things we must do for the people of our State and her Counties if we want the State and Counties to fulfill their responsibilities to you as citizens in a Democracy:
TAXES AND FINANCE
The sales tax on food and drugs must be re pealed. There is no justice or logic in requiring persons on relief or below subsistence level to pay taxes on the necessities for life.
Parimutuel racing in Virginia should be auth orized by the State Legislature with the requirement that State proceeds from this will be ear- marked for public schools and hospitals.
A reasonable realty tax exemption should be provided for persons over 65 years who live on their property so exempted.
Working farmers, who live on their farms and whose farms are a major source of their livelihood, should also receive a reasonable tax exemption.
