The group decided it was not legal to acquire fire equipment through the Board of Supervisors to avoid excises or taxes of any kind and resell it to individual companies in the county. At a previous meeting the Board had been approached by Amissville Volunteer Fire Department which contemplates the purchase of a truck. In the interest of the fire companies of the county, the Board approved payment of the $500 allotted for the annual county fire school which is being held this week.
Resident Engineer James K. Skeens of the Highway Department had no specific report to make on roads, but answered numerous questions put to him concerning various aspects of road construction and repair. He reported that road and bridge repair necessary following the disasterous flood in some counties of Virginia would climb as high as 20 million (%tlars and would affect the entire road network; however, with new construction allotments already on hand and federal grants which, in some cases, pay 100% of the damages, delays in new construction will be slight.
