Traffic Crashes
Net Slight Injuries
No charges were made in a traffic collision on Route 729 last Wednesday, October 1 when two trucks sides wiped and only the outside mirror on each touched the other. The operators were James C. Johnson of Washington, Va. in a 1969 Chevrolet pickup and Charlie Davis Hawkins of Castleton in a 67 Chevrolet truck.
A single-vehicle crash occurred on Route 211, three and a half miles east of Washington on October 4. Cynthia Louise Furlow of Falls Church, operating a 64 Valiant, lost control of the car and ran off the shoulder of the road (into what will be the median strip of the new dual lane highway). She sustained some cracked ribs. A charge of failing to keep her vehicle under control was made.
Trooper W. A. Buntin investigated both of the above wrecks.
Charles Marshall Rutherford of Sperryville was charged with failing to report a personal injury accident after being involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday. The wreck occurred on Route 600 a mile and a half south of Sperryville. He was operating a 64 Chevrolet station wagon when he ran off the right of the road ar.d struck a tree. He sustained lacerations of the right eye and James Wilson Leake of Sperryville received lacerations and bruises of the face. The crash was investigated by Trooper J. B. Willis.
Variety of Mixed Colors in Mountains
A great variety of mixed colors can be seen throughout the forests in Shenandoah National Park, expressed Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins. Bright fall colors of red, orange, and yellow contrast sharply with the dark green summer shades still remaining in some trees. About 20% of the vegetation now is in fall regalia.
Mr. Hoskins suggested that Park visitors should come prepared to take full advantage of their Park experience. Bring a jacket or sweater as it can be chilly at this elevation; and bring sturdy shoes for a hike. You will want a
