Stopped by Dick Latham’s farm the other day. Dick had just finished seeding this year’s com silage field to Blueboy wheat. Dick is one of many Virginia fanners who is making the switch to Blueboy. According to estimates by County Agents, over half the wheat seeded in the state last year was Blueboy. However, I wouldn’t recommend Blueboy unless you are willing to invest in 80 to 120 pounds of Nitrogen top dressing early next spring. Other high yielding varieties recommended by VJM. are Redcoat, Reed and Coker 65-20. Recommended seeding date for our area October 1 to October 9C.
