A hunter safety course was conducted by the Game Commission and Mr. George Patterson at the Rappahannock County High School November 'jrd thru the 6th. This is the National Rifle Association course which has been given at the High School for the past 3 years. This year as in the past the Rappahannock Game and fish Club paid for the material for the boys taking this course. This year 130 boys took part. A number of these young people had taken the course and qualified in the past years and for those who had this served as a refresher. Fifty four boys were newly qualified this year. 1
There have been no hunting accidents in Rappahannock so far. Let’s keep it that way. There has, however, been a shooting of a cow which is inexcusable and as is usually the case went unreported by the person responsible. Even if this black cow was mistaken for a bear there is no excuse. As every hunter safety trainee was taught and as everyone should know before handling a gun, be sure of your target - and beyond.
