Livestock Survey

It was announced today that Rural Mail Carriers and Star Route Contractors will begin distributing December 1, 1969 Livestock Survey Cards to farmer-patrons on their routes about November 21.
Your Post Office assists the Department of Agriculture each year in making this survey.
Livestock cards returned by farmers to their carriers will be mailed direct to the Virginia Crop Reporting Service in Richmond. Information from each card will be combined with other reports to give indications of changes in livestock on farms in the Old Dominion. Using these facts, estimates will be made of the number pf cattle and calves, hogs and pigs, and chickens on Virginia farms. In addition, estimates of the number of milk cows, the calf crop, (all sows farrowed and pigsj saved,, and plans for spring farrowing will be determined from information obtained from the December 1 Livestock Survey.
So, next week if you find in your mailbox a card titled “Livestock Survey, December 1, 1969,” don’t put it aside. It was placed there by your carrier.
He urges that you fill out the card and return it to your earner as soon as possible. It is important that you return the card for your farm since only a given number of farms will receive these cards and your community will be represented according to the number of cards returned.
