Vetter, Jr., U.S.A.F. made a dramatic entry into the Fourth of July celebration at Washington, Va. where he was guest speaker.
This was the result of two weeks of planning and preparation by Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan who directed n impressive patriotic program and provided a brilliant display of fireworks for town and county residents and those passing through to enjoy.
Broadcast band music surging through speaker* wafted aovoaa the hills around Avon Lake which reflected the luminari star outlined on the lawn in front of the house. A re-run of John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address was used as a preamble to Gen. Vetter’s talk which was a contrast to the present “me, now” philosophy of the public.
Gen. Vetter, who was introduced by Mr. Carrigan, is in command of one of the largest transportation wings in the Air Force, with headquarters at Dover AFB, Del. He is an active jet pilot and aeronautical engineer.
The helicopter, referred to as the Jully Green Giant, is the type used in war areas and will carry 25 combat-ready troops or two jeeps. It can be made amphibious by simply retracting the landing gear and has a maximum speed of 160 miles per hour.
At the conclusion of Gen. Vetter’s speech, with a spotlight focused on him, everyone stood for the pledge to the flag while the “Star Spangled Banner”
