Announcement was made that estimated revenue from state sales tax for Rappahannock would be $83,000 and the local sales tax $27,000. The total for the year ending in June was $80,800.
It was suggested by the County Clerk, E. M. Jones, that the very old personal property books of the county be restored since some of them were in extremely bad condition. This was made into a motion and passed. Among these records is information concerning the selection of Washington as the county seat.
Resident Engineer James K. Skeens heard several road complaints and stated that conditions for road maintenance had been bad in view of the extremely dry weather. He noted ail complaints and said immediate attention would be received. He also discussed the construction of an industrial access from Rappahannock Manufacturing Company to Route 522. This would have to be cleared for right of way by the company and would not involve any local funds. That was tabled until the right of way is secured for the board felt they should not become involved until land aettlement was made.
Also discussed by Mr. Skeen was the proposed project for a new bridge across the Thornton River at Laurel Mills. A new bridge will replace the steel truss span.
Hospital payment requests by Welfare Superintendent, Mrs. Elizabeth Buntin, were processed and accounts were approved for payment.
