Two Sperryville Scouts Plan Philmont Trip
Two Eagle Scouts from Troop 65, Sperryville, are making plans for a 23 day trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico from July 6 to July 29, 1971. Eagle Scouts Bill Kilby and Bill Stokes of Sperryville attended a Philmont Orientation program on Sunday October 4 tit' Winchester where initial plans for the trip were discussed. These two young men will have a chance to visit 16 states in 11 days of bus travel and spend 12 days on the Ranch. Troop 65 is sponsored by the Rappahannock Jaycees and is under the leadership of Scoutmaster A. Y. Stokes.

The special deer, bear and squirrel season for bow hunters will open next Thursday, October 15 and continue thru November 14. The regular bag limits of six squirrels a day and one bear per license year, 75 pounds or over, as well as one deer per day and license year apply. However, a deer of either sex may be taken on any one day of the special archery season. All game taken during this special season must be counted in the yearly limit and deer and bear hunters must tag and check their kill.
Squirrel season, with guns, continues in Rappahannock and Culpeper counties thru next Wednesday, October 14.
The dove population which seemed to fall off drastically after the first couple weeks of the season seems on the upswing again with probably some Northern birds moving in. Quitting time this Saturday, October 10 is 5:44 p.m. local time.
