County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee.
Most cost-sharing is on a fiftyfifty basis between farmers and the Government. However, the Government will assume a greater portion of the cost for certain practices carried out in special projects or by Iq^-income farmers. The ASC Committee Chairman said every attempt is being made to help farmers and the general public understand how the new Rural Environmental Assistance Program can best serve Rappahannock County.
This is a continuing program with an annual allocation of funds. We plan to invite more community participation in planning and carrying out farmland conservation practices under REAP which can provide long-term, tangible benefits to the entire community -- such benefits as cleaner water and air, better recreation, green open spaces to help beautify the county, better habitat for wildlife. REAP is an agricultural conservation program for the benefit of everyone, and everyone can be involved in REAP progress.
