Noting that trooper vacancies exist within the Department of State Police, Captain Bradley j who heads the Department’s] Second Division with! Headquarters at Culpeper, invites! any young men from age 211
through 29 to consider a State] Police career.
In addition to the age| requirement, Captain Bradley! said there are height and weight] restrictions, a man must have a! high school diploma or have a! General Education Development] Certificate, must be in gobd physical condition and of excellent character, and must complete certain aptitude tests.
Immediately upon employment as a conditionally appointed trooper, the full starting salary of $7,344 is paid and this can be increased by steps to $9,600 with five; and one-half years of satisfactory service. Captain Bradley added that all uniforms and equipment are supplied and there are many
other benefits such as reduced life] insurance rates and retirement.
With no waiting period, an accepted applicant undergoes a minimum of 30 days field training during which he is assigned to an experienced trooper. The duration of this depends upon the dates of the two annual Basic Training Schools. During 21 weeks of basic training, there is no charge for food or lodging and the full salary applies.
Captain Bradley stated that any young man who is interested and feels he is qualified should seek further information from any State Police office or installation.
In addition to the Division Office at Culpeper, information is available between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Luray Office which is located on the Leakesville Road just off Route 211 in Luray. •"
