Firemen in various areas responded to several chimney fires and others which were quickly controlled. More water systems and autos were frozen or failed to start than could be remembered for a long time and plumbers and mechanics have been kept on the run. The official temperature recorded at Washington was 3 degrees below zero; however, reports of as much as 11 below were received at the newspaper office. Zero was recorded in the Amissville area by several persons, unofficially. As quickly as the cold snap appeared, it disappeared and by Tuesday it was almost shirt-sleeve weather again. □ 4
