to Old Rag because it&tands aloof from the conveniences of the Skyline Drive.
The Drive may thrill the casual tourist with panoramic views of Virginia, but the highway has rendered the long Charlottesville to Sperryville ridge a headache of cars and picnickers at the convenient “overlooks,” at least for someone trying to escape the automobile and car culture.
And so, what might have been designated a wilderness area for hikers and horseback riders, and the skyline ridge, a long, second day objective, has become, instead, a highway - divided park.
