“Tuberculosis,” she said, “continues to be a very real problem in Virginia. The case rate (number of cases per 100,000 population) in the Commonwealth is 25.3, while the national case rate is 18.3. The fact that TB is still very much with us needs to be brought to the attention of our citizens in Virginia.
“Virginia’s TB-RD associations are also conducting educational projects to create awareness of air pollution problems in the state. Hearings on the state’s implementation plans to meet new federal air quality standards were held this month. The Virginia Air Conservation Commission, a VTRDA-sponsored group, has worked closely with the State Air Pollution Control Board to help keep Virginians informed of the progress in combating air pollution in Virginia.”
