The election trend in Rappahannock County was like that of the state and nation with the Republicans winning by a large majority. Nixon was far ahead in the final count with his total more than double that of McGovern on the Democratic ticket. Totals were 1055 for Nixon with 471 polled for McGovern.
U. S. Senator William Spong lost his seat to William Scptt, a Republican and J. Kenneth Robinson retained his seat in the House of Representatives. He was opposed by Murat Williams, whom he had defeated in the previous election. Robinson did not quite double his vote over Williams. The point spread in the Spong-Scott race for the Senate was much less than the others.
