Bruce went on: "l went to the mountain myself and took some posts to the sawmill and put up some kennels myself, and now they are about torn up. A high school teacher who hikes in the afternoon came up on this place, and she was right startled.
“If I didn’t pick up a4ot of meat scraps at the Corner Store — the boys are good to give it to me — it would cost the county a lot more. Nothing would make me happier than to have someone take care of them.”
In answer to some Supervisors’ questions, Bruce estimated that caring for stray dogs has cost the county between $100 and $150 a year over the past several years.
“What do you do with the dogs eventually?” asked Mrs. Betty Coates.
“I shoot them,” replied Bruce. “I have to keep them five days and then I shoot them.”
