The warm months this year will be utilized to “spruce up” the area, open up another night sking trail, and make other refinements.

A total of 370 acres is owned on Jenkins Mountain, going all the way to the top of the ridge. At present, the highest ski run has a “vertical drop” (to use the trade’s jargon) of 650 feet. Eventually, the drop will be 1,100 feet, or thereabouts.

By comparison, Camelback has a “full vertical drop” of only 750 feet, and competing Round Top has only 500 feet. Bryce has 450, Massanutten 960 (with a full potential of about 1,800 feet).

Moore feels the statistic that is most directly in his ski area’s favor, however, is its proximity to Washington, D.C., and the number of skiiers living in the metropolitan area.
