IN CELEBRATION of the advent of the spring season, The Country Store of Washington, Va. is sponsoring a demonstration of the ancient and beautiful folk art of Ukranian Easter Egg Design.
These workshops will initiate a spring craft festival on Saturdays during April and May. Under the direction of Linda Gruber, the Easter Egg Design demonstrations will be held free ‘ of charge on three successive Saturdays, April 7,14, and 21. They will begin at 10 a.m. and last about an hour and, will be repeated at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Other craft seminars planned during May include “The Secrets of Wood” on May 5, “The Versatile Herb” on May 12, “Collecting Americana” on May 19 and “The Doll” on a date to be announced.
EASTER EGGS, which symbolize the rebirth of Spring have been intricately and lovingly decorated for centuries by the Ukranians. It has been a religious ritual in most Ukranian families.
The designs on the eggs are made with a special tool called a kistka which is heated over a candle and filled with beeswax shavings.
