With respect to the Virginia Electric Power Company and its proposed uglification of a large part of beautiful Rappahannock County (and adjoining counties), it is of the utmost importance that residents turn out in large numbers to express their views at the public hearing to be held next Thursday, March 29, at the Rappahannock Courthouse before members of the State Corporation Commission. There will be two sessions, at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. the same day, but it is vital to note that in order to speak, even briefly, you are asked to file your name beforehand with County Clerk Ned Jones, preferably several days beforehand so that the time schedule can be worked out. The board also has asked that whenever feasible, speakers submit a written statement of their views.
I hope that no one will be frightened off by the requirement for advance “registration,” a formality that may give an undue aura of speechmaking to the session. Personally I feel it would have been far better to permit anyone to arise spontaneously and give his or her views off the cuff.
