RAPPAHANNOCK County Commonwealth’s Attorney, George H. Davis Jr., has requested the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board to hold a public hearing in the county to find means of stopping air pollution, which he says comes from a viscose plant in nearby Front Royal.
In a letter to Edgar B. Boynton, the control board’s chairman, Davis stated that atmospheric emissions from the American Viscose plant of the FMC Corporation in Front Royal create objectionable odors over a wide area of Rappahannock County.
And,' he charged, these odors are doing serious damage to the property and to the health of Rappahannock citizens, 4‘inviolation of the statutory laws against pollution.”
DAVIS SAID it is difficult to see how the ‘State can expect its citizens to cooperate in anti-pollution measures when such obvious violations are permitted.
